E-Board Update
Posted On: Mar 05, 2014
Dear Local 61 Members, As you are well aware the new pay plan has been rolled out. I have sent a copy of the pay plan to Washington, DC and the IAFF believes that the new pay plan is legal. I have spoken with several people around the region and across the United States. Most have encouraged us to let this go for a month or so to see what the actual numbers are and how members are affected. After we have some concrete numbers, and a chance to thoroughly review all of the concerns we will attempt to schedule a meeting to address them and look for ways to make adjustments. I encourage all members to check their pay stubs carefully. Make sure it is what you are supposed to get. If not, then let one of the E Board members know via email with a comparison of what HR said you would get and what you actually received. Please also send your concerns through your E-Board or station reps. We need to know what's wrong so that we can work on fixing it. We will be discussing with CFD Admin the possibility of Local 61 going to the March recruit class for an introduction/membership drive. As more information is available it will be passed along. Ed Thompson's daughters are home and doing much better. The surgeries appear to be resolving the issue and Ed is back to work. We are still keeping a list of volunteers to provide meals, if you would like to help please send Debbie Brown an email. I would like to recognize those members who in the truest spirit of Brotherhood stood up to help Ed with shift coverage. Thank you to Travis Doverspike, Kevin Prin, your generosity helped in more ways than you think. A group of Local 61 members showed up at Gerald Mishoe's house following the ice storm to help with tree and branch removal. Gerald was very grateful for the assistance and it's good that we were able to do something small for someone who has done so much for the guys in our department. Thank you to Dewey Carstensen, Corey Hansen, Anthony Morley, JJ Winn, and Matt Thomson for your help. Did you know that you can sign up for text message alerts from the Local 61 website? Log in to the website, go to edit user settings and then enter your phone number, cell carrier and check "Yes" under Send Me Text Message Alerts. We used this feature to make notifications about the work at Gerald's house and we can use it in the future for short notice notifications. I have not heard from anyone in response to my first letter. I would like to know what you, the members of Local 61 want to see our Local do this year. Any and all suggestions are welcome. The next regular membership meeting is Wednesday, March 12, 7pm at the Longshoreman's Hall on Morrison Dr. We will have an open discussion and would like to hear your concerns about the pay plan. Bring your pay stubs and the information sheet that you received during the payroll meeting. We will also make plans for getting together on St. Patrick's Day. -- Bill Haigler
