The Charleston Firefighters' Association - Local 61 has created this 'Recruit & Helpful Info' page in order to help make our new hires and current CFD Recruits transition to life in the Charleston City Fire Department and life in the Lowcountry as smooth and as easy as possible, as well as help our current members with useful information on firefighter/union-friendly businesses and services.
For our new recruits, on average, about half of each CFD Recruit Class is made up of people who come from somewhere other than the Charleston/ Lowcountry-area, with many coming from out of state. Local 61 realizes how challenging and stressful it can be to relocate to a new city, whether it's an individual moving or an entire family. It's with this in mind, that Local 61 has developed this page, which contains information on the Charleston City Fire Department, as well as information about and services provided by the City of Charleston and surrounding communities, in order to help our newest brothers.
If you are a new hire/new recruit and you need help or have any questions feel free to contact us here, through the website. Likewise, if you are a current CFD & Local 61 member and you know of a firefighter/union-friendly business or service, or you, yourself own or work for a business that you would like to advertise here on Local61.com, please let us know. Click on the 'Contact Us' box on the upper left hand side of the website and send us an email with any questions, concerns or information you have, we will reply as quickly as we can (be sure to include your name, email address and if it's an emergency, your phone number).
This page will be updated frequently, so check back often!!!
