Charleston Firefighter's Association Local 61
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
It saddens me to inform you that Captain Ronnie Campbell entered into eternal rest on Sunday April 20th, 2008. He fought a long hard battle with esophageal cancer.
Captain Campbell died at age 49 and served 30 years in the Charleston Fire Department. He also is a charter member on the Charleston Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 61 since it reformed in 1996. He was diagnosed with the cancer two months after the tragic Sofa Super Store fire and began treatment at Cancer Treatment Center of America in Philadelphia, PA. Early on in his treatment there seemed to be hope for his recovery. But toward the end, the cancer and complications took him from us.
Captain Campbell was retired just one month before his passing. Because he was no longer on the cities payroll his beneficiaries are not entitled to the insurance benifits that an active CFD firefighter is entitled to. The small amount allowed by the S.C. Retirement System will not even cover furneral expenses and the family is left with a huge amount of medical bills that his health insurance did not cover. This is a burden that no family should face alone.
I urge you donate whatever you can to the IAFF Local 61 Benevolence Fund in the name of Capt. Ronnie Campbell. The smallest amount will be appreciated and will be used to assist the family with funeral cost and help the family with the medical bills that must be paid.
Please keep the Campbell family in your prayers. Please Donate.
Fraternally,
Roger Yow – President
