| Station 8 Turns 100 |
Sun. May 16th 2010
Today, Engine Company 8 on Huger Street celebrated the Company's 100th anniversary. Known as "The Ghost House" for the strange and unexplained phenomena that has occured there over the years, Engine 8 was formed back in 1910, the same year that construction of the Huger Street Fire Station was completed. Engine 8 is among the oldest engine companies in the city, while the Huger Street Fire Station is the third oldest fire house in the city (behind Central Station built in 1887 and The Cannon Street Fire Station built in 1888). The Huger Street Fire Station joins Central Station and The Cannon Street Fire Station towards the top of the list of the oldest fire houses in the United States.
Current and former CFD members were on hand today to celebrate and remember their times an "The Ghost House" It was a great day in the Charleston Fire Department as we were able to take time to reflect and remember the strong tradition of this historic firehouse. Congratulations!!!!
